A Big Mac Attack! – Jackie McLean’s “Nature Boy”

The rhythm section of Cedar Walton (piano), David Williams (bass) and Billy Higgins (drums) lay down a deep groove on this F minor vamp while Jackie McLean plays an amazing alto solo that’s 1 minute and 20 seconds of pure bliss!  Check out his use of a variety of inside and outside improvisation concepts on this F Minor vamp.  A lot of great use of whole-tone and diminished scales as well as harmonic minor, and some interesting runs off the Ebm6 chord too.  A lot of it goes by pretty fast, so spend some time just listening to it, and then work through the transcription one phrase at a time. You’re sure to learn some cool new concepts!
